Kevin A. Cahill
New York State Assemblymember & Chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Energy
Assemblymember Kevin Cahill represents the 101st Assembly District, which includes most of Ulster County and the Town and Village of Rhinebeck in Dutchess County. Elected in 1998 as the candidate for the Democratic, Independence and Liberal parties, he was re-elected in 2000, 2002 and 2004 as the candidate for the Democratic, Independence and Working Families parties.
Mr. Cahill is the Chair of the Assembly Standing Committee on Energy and serves on the Health, Higher Education, Ways and Means and Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry Committees. He is also the Chairman of the Democratic Study Group. Mr. Cahill has previously served on several other committees including Steering, Consumer Affairs, Codes, Real Property Tax, Local Government and Children and Families. He was the Assembly spokesperson for Community Corrections, a member of the task force on Local Government Finance Reform, former Chair of the Assembly Ethics and Guidance Committee and the longest tenured Chair of the Legislative Task Force on People with Disabilities.
He has a strong record on the environment, civil rights, labor, health care and women’s issues. Mr. Cahill was, and remains, a strong advocate for local real property tax reform. A graduate of the State University of New York at New Paltz and Albany Law School, Mr. Cahill is also dedicated to quality, affordable education for all residents of New York State.

Tria Case
Executive Director, CUNY Center for Sustainable Energy
Tria Case is the University Director of Sustainability for The City University of New York (CUNY). In this capacity Ms. Case is responsible for assisting CUNY’s 23 institutions of higher education to meet the goal of reducing CUNY’s carbon footprint by 30% in ten years and more broadly to integrate sustainability in to the fabric of the university. In addition, as the University Director of Sustainability, Ms. Case oversees the CUNY Task Force on Sustainability and its associated committees.
Ms. Case also serves as the Executive Director for the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) located at CUNY’s Bronx Community College. The mission of CSE is to promote the use of renewable and efficient energy technologies in urban communities and more importantly to implement it through education, training, workforce development, research, and project facilitation. CSE has been named the action arm for the City of New York in their partnership with the Department of Energy’s Solar America City Initiative.

Vicki Colello
Project Manager, NYSERDA
Vicki is a Project Manager with the NYS Energy Research & Development Authority, where she works on energy efficiency and renewable energy workforce development, along with other areas.
Prior to working with NYSERDA, Vicki was an independent consultant working with the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) for ten years, and she was formerly a policy analyst with the NYS Energy Office, working in energy efficiency and solar energy.
Vicki is the Chair of the National Organizing Committee for Solar 2009, a major national solar energy conference put on annually by the American Solar Energy Society, which will be held in Buffalo, NY, in May 2009. |

Vincent Cozzolino

A physicist and electrical engineer with over thirty years experience with the IBM Corporation, Cozzolino heads the taskforce of The Solar Energy Consortium. He has held several vice president positions in high technology fields and was instrumental in the building and commissioning of IBM’s latest 300mm computer chip fab. Cozzolino has led global teams and managed thousands of employees across many countries for IBM. As president and CEO, Cozzolino works to bring together a state-wide team of academic, business, community, environmental, utility and labor leaders to establish a new solar energy industry in New York State. |

Christopher Marx is Director of Continuing and Professional Education for SUNY Ulster. Previously, Chris worked for the Dutchess County Workforce Investment Board and was Associate Director of a non-profit youth workforce development agency in Poughkeepsie called the Youth Resource Development Corporation. Chris also spent two years as a volunteer teacher and program director in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. Chris has a Bachelor's Degrees in philosophy and geology and a Master's in Education. |

Frank Surdey
Principal Economist, NYS Department of Labor
Frank Surdey serves as a Managing Labor Economist for the New York State Department of Labor, Division of Research and Statistics. The Research Division is recognized as the primary source of labor market information in the State. He currently has statewide responsibility for economic development issues/projects and is the Division’s lead on clean and green technology research. Previously (2002-2007), Mr. Surdey served as Regional Administrator for the Division Of Employment Services in the Hudson Valley Region – with responsibilities for seven local workforce areas. The Employment Services Division provides labor exchange services, maintains a Talent Bank/Job Bank, and delivers a variety of business services including recruitments, job fairs and HR consulting.
From 1991-2002, Mr. Surdey managed operations and served as Regional Economist for the Department’s Research Division in the seven-county Hudson Valley Region. Earlier in his career, Mr. Surdey also managed Research Division operations in the Mohawk Valley and North Country regions and served as a labor market analyst in the Southern Tier.

Dr. Rick Beal
Associate Director, Educational Outreach
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry
Dr. Richard Beal has been working in ESF Outreach since 2001 and is currently the Associate Director of Educational Outreach and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Environmental and Forest Biology. Rick is currently Co-PI on a three-year $1.4 million grant from the NSF that brings college research into Central and Western New York high schools and middle schools through the ESF Science Corps. Rick has been active in several outreach projects during his time at ESF. He participated in committees that developed both the new Urban Ecology Minor as well as the Urban Ecology course. Rick is a board member for Project Watershed and is a member of the Onondaga Lake Partnership Outreach Committee. Rick received a BS degree in biochemistry from the University of Buffalo in 1991 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the same institution in 1997. He was a Peace Corps teacher in Eritrea (East Africa) from 1997 to 1998 and has over ten 10 years of experience in coaching soccer.

Mark Retersdorf has had a long career in sales. A graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh with a BA in Psychology, Mark decided upon graduation to pursue a career in Business Management. He worked for Marriot Corp, CVS Pharmacy and Pepsi-Cola before becoming President of the Fulton County Regional Chamber of Commerce in 1991, where he doubled membership in the first 2 years. In 1996, he was hired away from the chamber by a Board Member to work in the Telecom business, starting a new division for the company in this new thing called, “Internet.” In three years, he drove the business from 0 clients to over 8000. The company was sold for 15 million dollars. Mark stayed in the Telecom business 8 more years working for several Telecom companies where he won many awards and was in charge of teaching new recruits on selling skills. In January of 2008 he was hired by Fulton Montgomery Community College as their new “Workforce Development Specialist.”

Wakefield also oversees the development and implementation of a $1.2 million U.S. Department of Labor grant to develop post-baccalaureate certificates in the areas of Engineering, Biotechnology, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Renewable Energy. Wakefield earned a masters degree from Syracuse University in instructional design, development and evaluation from the School of Education in 1986 and her Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY College at Oswego’s School of Education in 1979. |
